Herbert O. Morris of Fredericksburg and Stonewall passed away on Friday June 1, 2012 at the age of 82.
Herbert Morris was born on August 13, 1929 to Edgar C. and Dosia Anderson Morris in Georgetown South Carolina. After Graduating early from High School he joined the Army Air Corp and became a Drill Sergeant. While in the service he met Lucille Immel on a double blind date they were married for 58 years until her passing in 2008. After his Military Service Mr. Morris attended St, Mary’s University in San Antonio, he worked odd jobs to support his family while earning a Bachelors Degree in business. After graduation Mr. Morris went to work for GPM Insurance where he worked for 32 years. Upon retirement from GPM he operated Herbs Motors in Stonewall for 25 years. Herb was very civic minded serving his community in many ways from serving on the Stonewall Water Board and the Stonewall Heritage Club as well as President of the Church Council for Trinity Lutheran Church. One of Herbs great joys was serving in the Lions Club as a member of the Founders Lions Club in San Antonio serving as their president and serving Lionism at a Past District Governor. The Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville was a special project of his, sponsoring many campers over the years. Herb continued to work the Immel family farm through the years. He loved to cook and was known for his BBQ.
Mr. Herbert Morris is Survived by his daughter Rebecca Hornyak and husband William of Irving Texas, sisters Nell Morris Cribb of Georgetown SC and Anne Morris McDaniel of Charleston SC. And 2 grandchildren, William L. Hornyak and wife Erin, and Kristen Bonelli and husband Tony.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Lucille Immel Morris, siblings Clifton Morris, Daniel Morris, Rufus Morris, Lucille Morris, Frances Morris, Ida Bell Morris, Marie Morris McCormick.
Funeral Services for Mr. Herbert Morris will be Monday June 4, 2012 at 10:00am in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stonewall with burial to follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery with Pastor Percy Smerek officiating. Visitation with the Family will be from 4:00pm to 6:00pm on Sunday June 3, 2012. He will lie in state on Monday June 4th from 9:00am until 10:00 am in Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Texas Lions Camp.
