Luz Castillo, of Fredericksburg, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, at the age of 94. Luz was born in Edna, Texas on July 6, 1917 to Jose Peres and Natividad Martinez Peres. She was raised in Fredericksburg and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Luz married Domingo Castillo in 1934 and they had four children before his sudden death in 1942.
Luz was a lady of strong faith, strong will and deep devotion to her children. Left with four children to raise, she worked hard and provided for her family. Luz loved being around family, especially her grandchildren. She loved to bake and was known for the wonderful pies she made. She was a housekeeper and she always kept her own home spotless. Her faith carried Luz through hard times and she was devoted to the Shrine of The Virgin of San Juan in San Juan, Texas.
Survivors of Mrs. Castillo include her children Ben Castillo and wife Cathy of Yulee Florida, Rosa Salinas and husband Joe of Fredericksburg, Cindy Bird and husband Claude of Chicago, Illinois and Domingo Castillo and wife Maria of Fredericksburg. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and a sister Antonia Escamilla of Fredericksburg.
A memorial service for Mrs. Castillo will be held on Wednesday, April 11, at 11:00 a.m. in the Beckmann Funeral Home Chapel with Father Enda McKenna officiating.
