Helen Gwen Henke, of Fredericksburg, passed away on Sunday, April 1, at the age of 83. Mrs. Henke is survived by a son Allen Henke and wife Marsha of Fredericksburg, a daughter Susan Bryla and husband Carroll of Fredericksburg, a sister Carol Ann Smith and husband Victor of Alvin, one grandson Eric Bryla and 2 great-grandchildren William and Jake Bryla. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Henke and a granddaughter Nicole Bryla.
Funeral services for Gwen Henke will be held on Wednesday, April 4, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church with Rev. David Priem officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. at Beckmann Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers are Russell Kott, Brian Eckhardt, Kyle Eckhardt, Eric Bryla, Freddie Klein and Victor Smith.
Gwen was born in Fredericksburg on November 13, 1928 to Ralph Gold and Helen Henke Gold. She was a graduate of Fredericksburg High School and on April 22, 1947 married Roy R. Henke in Junction, Texas. They made their home on the Henke ranch and through the years Gwen helped Roy with the family business “Henke’s” located midway between Kerrville and Fredericksburg. Gwen loved being outdoors and caring for her yard. She enjoyed traveling with Roy and spending time at the lake. Gwen was a lady full of grace and charm.
Memorials in her honor may be made to Holy Ghost Lutheran Church or the charity of one’s choice.
